Top prizes for three local tourism companies
THREE Shetland based tourism businesses scooped top awards at Friday night’s Highlands and islands Thistle Awards ceremony held in Inverness.
Celia Smith of Blyde Welcome was named winner of the coveted Individual of the Year award.
This award celebrates people whose dedication and contribution towards the tourism sector and hospitality make a meaningful difference.
Judges said Celia’s “recognition shines a light on the importance of individuals who help deliver positive visitor experiences and contribute to the strength and success of the Highlands and islands tourism industry”.
Meanwhile, both tour operators taking visitors to the spectacular seabird cliffs of Noss won major awards in different categories, reflecting the slightly different markets they serve.
Seabirds and Seals – the Original Noss Boat won the Best Visitor Attraction award, while Shetland Seabird Tours – Noss Boat were named winner of the Best Outdoor of Adventure Experience accolade.
Judges found that Seabirds and Seals offered visitors a memorable way to experience the region showcasing “the remarkable wildlife and spectacular coastal scenery that make Shetland so special”.
Shetland Seabird Tours meanwhile offer a “wonderful way to discover the remarkable wildlife and coastal scenery of Shetland, the award judges said.
