Business / Beggs shoe shop to close this weekend

THE DIRECTOR of retailer Beggs Shoes has thanked the company’s Shetland customers for their support over the years ahead of the Lerwick branch closing this weekend.

The Lerwick shop will have its final day of trading tomorrow (16 May).

Beggs director Gaven Begg previously said the decision to close is primarily driven by a long-term recruitment challenge in Lerwick.

The branch, on Commercial Street, opened in 2013.

Ahead of this weekend’s closure, Begg told Shetland News: “On behalf of the team in Lerwick and everyone at Begg Shoes, we would like to pass on a huge thank you to all of our loyal customers who have supported the store over many years.

“We have been very grateful for the kind messages and understanding we have received, and we know the store has meant a great deal to many people locally.”

Begg added that although the Lerwick store is closing, the company will continue to serve customers across Shetland through its online store, “with our full range of footwear available and free Royal Mail shipping to the Shetland Isles”.

“Customers can also continue to access support and advice from our team over the phone, including from our store in Kirkwall,” he added.

“Thank you again to everyone who has shopped with us, worked with us, and supported the Lerwick store over the years.”
