DELTING Up Helly Aa came to its fiery conclusion on Friday night with the burning of galley Moder Dy in Brae.

Guizer jarl Paul Ratter and his 45-strong squad of men, women and bairns paraded through the streets of the village alongside hundreds of torch-carrying guizers for the evening procession.

That came after a busy day for Grim Gamlison and the jarl’s squad, who had visited schools in Brae, Mossbank and Vidlin before meeting the community at an event in the Brae Hall in the afternoon.

The burning of Moder Dy on Friday night signalled the start of a night’s celebrations around halls and venues across the North Mainland, with all of the squads preparing to make their rounds for a dance and party.
