Health / NHS introduces temporary visiting restrictions on hospital’s ward one
NHS Shetland says that due to a high volume of respiratory illness within the community it is temporarily limiting hospital visits to ward one of the Gilbert Bain Hospital to essential visits only.
People are asked to contact the ward before making any visit by phoning 01595 743000.
This step is not required if someone has already agreed visiting arrangements with ward staff e.g. they are providing family support to a patient in whilst they are in hospital.
All essential visitors will be asked to wear personal protective equipment e.g. a fluid resistance mask when entering the ward area.
NHS Shetland said this step is necessary to protect our patients, staff and visitors.
A spokesperson added: “In order to ensure that we can meet the needs of all patients in hospital and provide the right care environment, there may be times when we will need to move patients between bays and possibly also between wards.
“We will keep patients informed of the moves if they are needed and limit this as much as possible. We are aware this announcement is short notice, but the hospital is very busy and we would appreciate your support in helping protect all our patients.
“If you are planning to visit a loved one, but have any cold or flu-like symptoms, please wait until you are feeling well. If you have experienced vomiting or diarrhoea, please wait until at least 48 hours have passed before visiting anyone.”
