MORE than half of SSEN’s planned cable installation along public roads is still to take place as part of its Shetland North reinforcement project.
Figures included in a community engagement event in Scalloway on Wednesday said 16.5km of cabling has been laid so far, with 28.1km left.
The aim is to have the work completed by the end of 2026.
Cabling will run from Lerwick to the Sullom Voe Terminal area, with Tingwall to the town for instance one area still to be completed.
LAURA Hay has been appointed as the new coordinator of the Shetland PeerieMakkers knitting project.
The project aims to provide traditional knitting tuition to primary aged children in Shetland.
Hay said she is looking forward to establishing new groups, planning events to bring the peerie makkers and tutors together, and raise awareness of the charity.
The PeerieMakkers AGM is taking place at the Mareel boardroom on Thursday 26 March at 10am, with anyone interested invited to attend.
THE NORTHMAVINE Community Development Company (NCDC) and the Hillswick Shop Board have thanked everyone who came along to the public meeting on the shop’s future last night.
A spokesperson said “it was great to see such strong community interest and to hear the many thoughtful ideas and questions shared on the night”.
They said people’s input is “invaluable as we continue exploring future plans for the shop”, with further conversations and updates due to take place in the coming weeks.

THE YELL Sound ferry service is due to reduce to a single vessel from 2 March to 27 March as the Daggri heads to dry dock.
It will be running to the shift timetable with bookings available.
