NEIL Arthur and Manouk Wilkinson have been crowned champions of the Shetland winter cross-country league following Sunday’s final race.
Arthur came in first in the men’s senior race at Shetland Golf Club in a time of 26:11, completing a clean sweep of wins across the four cross-country races.
Ronan Bourke finished in second place on Sunday and across the whole competition, while Matthew Cox was third in the race and overall too.
Wilkinson was named winner of the women’s competition after accruing two wins and one second place finish across the three races she competed in, with Charlotte Black winning the women’s race on Sunday.
Christie Ford finished second, while Lynsey Henderson was third.
Murray Todd was the winner of the under-20 competition, while Georgie Moncrieff came out on top in the under-15 girls section.
SHETLAND ACSC (Hurricanes) and Delting Dolphins travelled together to the North District age group championships at the weekend.
Julian Okroj, swimming for Delting in the 14-15 age group, continued his fine run of form to take six gold medals across the competition.
These were in the 400m individual medley, 200m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 1,500m freestyle, 100m freestyle and the 200m backstroke.
In doing so he broke the North District age group record in 200m backstroke, which had stood for 12 years.
Ruaridh Chittick and Leigh Gray, swimming for Hurricanes, delivered multiple PBs in backstroke, freestyle and individual medley, with Chittick making the final of 50m backstroke.
James Drakeford and Nicholas Cluness added improvements in breaststroke and sprint events, while Delting’s Ross Drakeford producing PBs in the 200m freestyle, 50m breaststroke and 100m freestyle, making the final in his 50m breaststroke.
Innes McDill added steady performances in the 200m and 100m freestyle, while Lockie Bullough had a good competition – making the finals of 100m butterfly, where he took the silver medal, as well as 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke and 100m freestyle.

Eilidh Chittick, in her first District event, swam well in all her races. Sophia Cheatle swam PBs in most of her races, reaching the final of the 100m backstroke.
Eve Moncrieff produced a five second PB in the 50m butterfly to qualify for the final, while Ella Winks took five seconds off her 50m butterfly time and Camryn Cheyney took 20 seconds off of her 400m freestyle.
Stella Okroj produced a PB of over 23 seconds in the 800m freestyle, and also reached finals in the 100m backstroke, 50m freestyle and 200m individual medley
Ellie Thompson, Molly Garrick and Heidi Simpson contributed strong swims across backstroke, freestyle and butterfly.
Both clubs thanked sponsors National Lottery Community Fund, sportscotland/SIC athlete travel award scheme and NorthLink Ferries.
ORKNEY overcame Shetland in the first ever junior inter-county darts contest at the weekend, which was played in Lerwick at the Clickimin.
The young guns trailed 4-2 after the doubles were played, with Dylan Young and Eddie Tindall, and Austin Smith and Reuban Giblin beating their opponents to give the blues hope.
However Orkney confirmed victory during the singles as they raced into an unassailable 11-4 lead.
Shetland battled back strongly, Dylan Young, Robert Bremner and Callum Urquhart winning their singles matches to bring the score back to 11-7.
And Shetland won two of the four v four matches at the end to complete an overall 12-9 win for Orkney in the inaugural junior county.
BRECHIN City have paid tribute to loyal Shetland supporter Lennie Johnson after he refused a refund for his match sponsorship when the game was called off.
Johnson was due to sponsor the match ball for Brechin’s game against Formartine, which was called off last weekend because of the weather.
Despite the disruption, he refused to take his money back and said it was “simply about supporting Brechin City”.
The club said it was “what our club is all about”, thanking him for his support.
Meanwhile Shetlander Spencer Moreland helped Brechin return to league action and pick up three points on Saturday.
Moreland started as Brechin edged out Huntly 1-0 at the weekend, keeping them within touching distance of the top of the Highland League.
Goalkeeper Henry Oldbury was also between the sticks as Golspie Sutherland earned a 2-2 draw with second placed Alness United in the North Caledonian league on Saturday afternoon.
