Letters / Where does Emma stand on the energy act proposal?
Hannah Mary Goodlad has said that, if elected, she will push for a Shetland Energy Act. This would be similar to the landmark and lucrative ZCC Act 1974, for oil – allowing the Shetland community to control related developments and secure maximum local benefit.
This is something that the SIC should have done several years ago (an initiative for a council leader with foresight and ambition, perhaps)?
Hannah Mary has also asked all the other Holyrood candidates to support this initiative.
I’m wondering where Emma Macdonald stands on this issue. As the council leader it appears she has done nothing to get a Shetland Energy Act.
In fact, it appears she has done everything she can to attract more energy projects to Shetland – the more the merrier.
Will she continue to do this as the Lib Dem candidate, or will she stand for up Shetland regaining control of its resources and its environment and support Hannah Mary’s initiative?
