Letters / Get the North Sea up and running

The North Sea is full of oil, so why are we importing oil from other countries?  The ships that bring the imported oil in are passing over the top of our oil fields.  In the North Sea, we can control environmental extraction issues to a high standard, that is not always the case with imported oil.  Are we not, effectively, exporting North Sea oil jobs?

Ranken Energy[i] tells us that there are 6,000+ plus products made from oil.  The most obvious, and prevalent, product from oil is plastic.  Look under the bonnet of an electric car, a majority of the parts are plastic, these parts have to be light because the battery is so heavy that the car could not otherwise move!  No oil produced locally, then we will have to import oil to make the 6,000+ products.

Get the North Sea up and running, get people into work, let renewable energy operators stand on their own feet, cut electricity bills, get prices down, run the economy for the people and not for renewable energy companies’ shareholders.
