Weather / Motorists report thick snow and poor visibility

HEAVY snow showers and strong north westerly winds are affecting travel and road conditions across the isles tonight (Tuesday).

There are reports of heavy snow and impassable roads from across the isles with some people sharing video clips of driving conditions on social media.

The A970 between Ollaberry junction and Hillswick has been described as “impassable” with cars and vans stuck.

All remaining bus services for tonight have been cancelled.

There are also some delays on the ferry service across Yell Sound but this not due to the snow but the wave action at Ulsta pier.

Many events across the isles were cancelled earlier in the day due to the wintry forecast.

The is a yellow weather warning for snow in place until Thursday.
