Arts / Norman’s three nods at Scottish Jazz Awards
LOCAL musician Norman Willmore is well represented at this year’s Scottish Jazz Awards – landing three nominations.
The saxophone player is up for the best instrumentalist award in his own right.
His collaboration with drummer Corrie Dick is also up for the best band award and the best album prize for their record Twa Double Doubles.
Willmore said it was “great to be nominated alongside so many talented people, many of whom are good friends”, adding that the “scene is thriving”.
The musician said he recently moved back to Shetland, but it is still regularly travelling away to play his own music, perform with the Peatbog Faeries and do “bits and pieces with other folk”.
Reflecting on 2025, Willmore said he is winding up an “excellent year of gigs” off the back of his last album – while he is recording a new one in February, which will feature some familiar Shetland names.
Meanwhile one of the musicians also nominated for the best instrumentalist prize is Harben Kay, a fellow saxophonist with Shetland family connections who recently performed at Mareel.
The public can vote on the awards until 21 November, with the winners announced at an event in Glasgow on 7 December.
