Letters / A focus on Shetland’s interests
Hannah Mary Goodlad’s motion at SNP conference to reserve cabin and vehicle quotas on the ferries and scrap peak fares for islanders has been passed.
She is to be congratulated on this; on her confident, competent and professional presentation of the motion, and on her recognition of the importance of this to islanders.
Beatrice Wishart’s support for this is welcome, though one has to wonder why it took Ms Goodlad’s motion to conference to prompt the Lib Dems into action.
Maybe their elderly, creaking, 75-year-old grip on Shetland is beginning to fade?
Hannah Mary Goodlad also sent out a message reminding folk how Shetland has benefitted from SNP policies – 1,000 baby boxes here since 2017, and free school meals for children up to Primary 6, as well as funding towards the new Anderson High School, and the local regulating order for shellfish – one of the best examples of devolution we have.
Without the SNP, we would have none of these, and if Ms Goodlad is elected to Holyrood in May next year, she will be able to ensure a focus on Shetland’s interests.
