Council / Planning round-up 6 October
A NUMBER of new information signs could be installed in Scalloway.
Plans have been submitted by the local development company for five signs – four in the village itself, and one at its caravan park at Asta.
The signs in Scalloway itself would be located on the west side of the village, including near the college.
They would complement the existing information boards and signs already in place in the village which provide details about heritage and history.
A BUILDING firm has revised plans for fencing off its merchants yard in Lerwick.
Huws Gray’s new plans for its site at Freefield Road come after it withdrew previous proposals amid concerns over the impact on access.
Under the new plans a primary route would see the core path diverted to the east along the quayside, joining the route that leads to Gutters Gaet.
An alternative route would also be offered to pedestrians on the west side of the site away from the quayside, which will be made possible by the demolition of buildings.
A statement given in the planning documents said Huws Gray consulted with the council as well as museum operator Shetland Amenity Trust prior to the new proposals being submitted.
It is proposing a 2.4 metre security fence around the site.
The company reiterated that a lack of fencing and a gate at the entrance to the site is creating a “health and safety issue”.
A BICYCLE shelter could be coming to the Mareel car park if plans come to fruition.
It would come with e-bike charging points, and be located on paving in the car park near to the pedestrian crossing at the front of the building.
