Letters / Are the Lib Dems rattled?
When first minister John Swinney took part in the recent public meeting in Shetland, MSP candidate Hannah Mary Goodlad was able to make the point firmly that it should be Shetland which instigates a dialogue with the Scottish Government about the powers Shetland wants/needs under autonomy, rather than the other way round. This was another impressive performance by her.
A couple of weeks later, there is a (hastily-arranged?) visit by the Scottish Lib Dem leader. Was he here to attempt to bolster the faltering first steps of their campaign?
It was autonomy all round, as he tried to reassure voters that all is well for the Lib Dems with their candidate with no mention as to why their Lib Dem ‘independent’ SIC councillor recently appeared to reject autonomy.
It seems that the Lib Dems believe Shetlanders will vote for them once more – no matter what. Really?
Do they really think folk here are so gullible; something tells me that it will be different this time.
