Energy / Viking wind farm turbine blades shipped to Lerwick
SOME new turbine blades destined for the Viking wind farm have been shipped to Lerwick.
A spokesperson for the wind farm’s developer SSE Renewables said there has been a delivery of new blade components to “fulfil ongoing operational maintenance activities” at the site.
When questioned for more information, the company said it had nothing further to add.
The spokesperson said the blades should be delivered from Lerwick to the wind farm in a number of weeks.
“In line with standard practice, the transport will be conducted by a specialist blade delivery contractor and under police escort,” they added.
“Advance notice will be given prior to delivery to minimise inconvenience to local road users.”
The blades were shipped to Lerwick on the Baltic Wave cargo boat.
A Viking turbine blade suffered damage in October last year, with SSEN saying back in March that it was due to be replaced.
The 103-turbine wind farm in Shetland’s Central Mainland launched last year.
