A CEREMONY was held at the county war memorial in Lerwick this morning marking the 80th anniversary of VJ (Victory over Japan) Day.

This marks the date in 1945 when Japan surrendered to the Allied forces, ultimately ending the Second World War.

At the war memorial there was an act of remembrance as well as wreath laying.

Four men, including two in military uniforms, hold and lower British flags outside a historic stone building during a formal ceremony. Several onlookers stand in the background.
