LABOUR’s Highlands and Islands MSP Rhoda Grant has led a cross-party call for the Scottish Government to take immediate action to address the “stark disparities” in palliative care provision for rural and island communities across Scotland.
The group – including Labour, Conservative, SNP and Liberal Democrat MSPs – have called on the health secretary Neil Gray to address the “pressing need” for equitable access to high-quality palliative care, ensuring that individuals in remote areas receive the same level of support as those in urban centres.
Grant said: “No one should face inequality in accessing palliative care simply because of where they live. There needs to be an increased share of funding, enhanced collaboration, as well as greater accountability.
“The Scottish Government must act now to implement these recommendations and ensure that every individual, regardless of geography, receives the compassionate care they deserve.”
