Papa Stour linkspan works moved to mid-August

PLANNED maintenance works on the West Burrafirth and Papa Stour ferry terminals are now set to take place in mid-August.

There will be no vehicle access to the Papa Stour ferry at West Burrafirth on Wednesday 13 August, or at the Papa Stour ferry terminal on Wednesday 20 August.

The service instead will operate for foot passengers only, using a gangway from the ferry to the shore.

Shetland Islands Council said passengers should be aware that the gangway and the stairs on board the vessel can be steep.

The maintenance involves major structural work which will require the linkspans to be taken out of use.

The linkspan will be removed after the last sailings on the previous Monday and will be replaced in time for the next sailings on Friday morning. Vehicle access to the Papa Stour ferry will not be possible between these times.

Passengers are advised that there will be restricted space at both ferry terminals while these works are taking place.

Ferry sailings on the Papa Stour route are for bookings only, by contacting the ferries booking office on 01595 745804 during opening hours.

Shetland Islands Council apologises for any inconvenience to passengers caused by these essential works.
