FJARA café bar in Lerwick has gone up for sale, with owner Jonathan Williamson looking to hand over the reins.

The business, which enjoys sea-front views in the town, has been marketed as one of Shetland’s “top-ranked Tripadvisor restaurants”.

No price has been given for the business, with offers invited.

Williamson said the sale offers a “rare chance to acquire a thriving business with a solid foundation in the Shetland Islands”.

Opened in 2014, Fjara was extended in 2021 and has garnered a strong reputation as a popular visiting spot for tourists and locals alike.

Williamson has been involved with the business since its inception, and said he felt now was “the correct time to pass the reins on to someone new”.

“Shetland presents a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to invest in the islands,” he said.

“Having been raised in Shetland, the islands have always been kind to me. The community in Shetland feel more like a family.

“I have spent many years greeting and welcoming patrons to the restaurant, who return time and time again.

“I will be sad to leave the industry behind, but I know the local community will continue to support any new owners in their endeavours.”

Anderson Strathern LLP is the estate agent for the sale, and said Fjara had “consistently showcased the best of Shetland’s culinary offerings.”

“This opportunity may be desirable for entrepreneurs looking to acquire a well-established business with a loyal customer base and proven success,” it added.
