Sport / Resounding victory for women’s football team in Orkney

The victorious Shetland women's football team, who beat Orkney 5-0.

THE SHETLAND women’s football team thrashed intercounty rivals Orkney 5-0 this afternoon (Saturday) in Kirkwall as the Blues made their bow in the Highlands and Islands Cup.

Freya Leslie scored a hat-trick, while Lisa Goudie bagged a brace too.

The fixture marked the first time the Shetland women’s football team has taken part in a major cup competition.

Shetland will face Clachnacuddin in Aberdeen on 18 May in their next fixture.

It comes as the women’s team prepare to take part in their first Island Games competition for 20 years this summer.
