Letters / Pleased to have visitors
To reply to Ian Harris’ letter of 25 November.
Yes, we are very pleased to have visitors!
One large issue lies with NorthLink. They are running what is supposed to be an essential service for islanders.
However, it appears that islanders are unable to access shared cabins, resulting in vulnerable people having to sit in uncomfortable pods – in other words chairs – on a 12 hour journey.
So, islanders are finding themselves without a bed to lie down. Very much needed on a stormy North Sea journey.
It is considered that eg holiday makers and companies with block bookings for example can access beds at the expense of the islander population.
Basically islanders have to pay for the entire four berth cabin. A voucher pays for one berth and the islander pays for the rest. So, there will be three empty berths!!!
The problem is NorthLink policy, not visitors!
