PLANS for Shetland Pride 2024 are well underway with the charity hosting its AGM on Monday at 7pm where the date of this year’s event will be announced.

Chairperson Gary Mouat said the committee is already “super excited” to reveal what is planned for Shetland Pride 2024.

“We’re already bursting with ideas for the Shetland Pride festival, and can’t wait to share these plans with everyone at the event,” he said.

Ahead of the AGM, which is being held at the Islesburgh Community Centre in Lerwick, the organisation has set up a free membership scheme to allow anyone interested in Shetland Pride to get more involved in the event without joining the committee.

Members will receive access to special events and workshops throughout the year and have voting rights at the AGM.

They will also be eligible for special discounts and get updated on news and plans relating to Shetland Pride.

“We want Shetland Pride to be owned by the people living here, and it is our hope that the membership scheme helps us to build community and support for anyone who needs it,” Mouat explained.

The organisation is also looking to take on more volunteers and committee members to help support the event later this year.

Mouat said: “It’s important for charities to have a reshuffle of their committees every year. Whilst some of the committee plan to stay, due to other commitments, sadly, some of the committee will also be moving on this year.

“This is healthy, as it brings both continuity with the previous members, and ‘new blood’ and ideas with the new members.”
