Election / Election candidate stands down from westside contest
ONE of the candidates for the Shetland West ward in the May council elections has removed himself from the running.
Peter Fraser said that due to personal circumstances he no longer wishes to be considered for election.
“It would have been an honour and a privilege to represent the Westside,” he said on Friday.
“I’m grateful to all that contacted me in this regard. I wish all the remaining candidates well and trust that Shetland West secures the representation it deserves.”
It means a total of seven candidates remain to contest Shetland West, which has two seats.
They are, in alphabetical order: Liz Boxwell (independent), Andrew Holt (independent), John Leask (independent), Debra Nicolson (Scottish Greens), Zara Pennington (SNP), Mark Robinson (independent), Ian Tinkler (independent).
The council elections will take place on 5 May, although the Shetland North and North Isles wards were uncontested.
There stands to be a by-election in the North Isles at a later date as only two candidates came forward for its three seats.
