Transport / Westside road closed after hydro pole fire
A WESTSIDE road has been closed as fire crews deal with a hydro pole fire.
The A971 road, west of Bridge of Walls, is currently closed at the Brunatwatt junction.
The power line in question is located beside the road to Sandness, beyond the Brunatwatt junction.
With concerns about the stability of the hydro pole, a decision was made today (Saturday) to close the road to through traffic until the pole is made safe or replaced, and power has been restored to properties in the area.
This work may take several hours and the road closure may remain in place until late this evening.
In the meantime, the diversionary route to and from Sandness is via Walls and the Dale of Walls, an additional distance of around six miles.
SSEN is currently reporting a power cut in the Westside area which is due to reconnect at around 9.30pm, while supplies were also affected earlier today in the Hillswick area.
