News / Icy roads result in numerous call-outs – but no injuries
POLICE in Shetland have attended a total of eight incidents from Virkie to Brae in the past day as a result of icy conditions on the roads.
The islands’ area commander Lindsay Tulloch said the incidents involved vehicles either off the road or in need of assistance.
Due to black ice on Monday night on the Black Gaet between Gulberwick and Scalloway, eight vehicles found themselves in difficulty – resulting in police closing the road on safety grounds until gritters could attend and treat the road surface.
Tulloch said there have been no reported injuries.
