Join the Children’s Panel

ADULTS interested in the welfare of vulnerable children and young people who are in need of care are being encouraged to apply to join the local Children’s Panel.

Children’s Hearings Scotland is inviting volunteers aged over 18 to join the panel, which makes vital decisions about the wellbeing of vulnerable youngsters.

The organisation is keen for more men to apply, with only one quarter of applications in the last three years coming from males.

Local man Billy Couper said the most rewarding part of the role is helping to make a difference in someone else’s life.

“Everyone in life comes from different backgrounds so the panel is made up of a wide mix of people which is vital to ensuring the best outcome is always reached,” he said.

“I’d encourage anyone thinking about joining, no matter where they are from or how they were brought up, to find out more.”

An information event is being held on Monday 11 September at the Children’s Hearings Centre at 13 Hill Lane in Lerwick from 7.30pm.

The deadline for applications this year is 26 September. To find out more, or to apply online, visit www.childrenspanelscotland.org.
