News / Andrew wins college award
A SHETLAND-based academic has been recognised for a second year running at the Highlands and Islands Student Association Awards.
Shetland College UHI’s Dr Andrew Jennings was given the ‘most engaging video conference tutor’ prize at the student-led teaching awards.
The academic, who works in the University of Highlands and Islands’ Centre for Nordic Studies across Shetland and Orkney, said it was a “great honour” to land the award.
Last year Jennings received the ‘best research or dissertation supervisor’ prize.
He is also the programme leader on the MLitt in island studies, and he lectures on MLitt courses in viking studies, Orkney and Shetland studies and Highlands and Islands literature.
Shetland College’s Dr Simon Clarke, Celia Smith, Lorraine Watson and Jacqui Clark were also nominated for awards.
Interim joint principal Willie Shannon said: “Another tremendous achievement for Dr Andrew Jennings and thoroughly deserved.
“I am also really pleased for all the staff members who were nominated, which is a reflection of the students’ experience – and that is what is most important.”
