News / Marathon RNLI fundraiser due in isles this weekend

Alex Ellis-Roswell plans to walk around 9,500 miles of British coastline as part of his fundraiser.

A MAN undertaking a charity walk around the coast of Britain to raise money for the RNLI is expected to arrive in Shetland this weekend.

Alex Ellis-Roswell hopes to be in the isles on Sunday (23 April) as part of a trip attempting to visit all RNLI stations in the UK. It will see him walk a total of 9,500 miles around the British coastline.

He started the walk when he left his home in Kent on 3 August 2014, and as so far raised almost £50,000 for the charity.

He will be walking around Shetland during the following week, and the local RNLI team are urging people to “please look out for him, and donate if you can. Alex will also be hoping that people will come forward with offers of food and accommodation, so that he is able to continue with his walk”.

A spokeswoman added that the RNLI, which provides a voluntary 24-hour search and rescue service and saves an estimated 23 lives per day, “relies on fundraisers such as Alex to be able to continue to save lives at sea”.
