SHETLANDERS are being reminded to make sure they are registered to vote for the upcoming local council elections.
The deadline to register is 17 April and anyone who has not yet signed up with their current address can register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
The closing date for postal voting applications is 18 April, while the cut-off point for proxy voting applications is 25 April.
This year’s council elections will see a total of 29 candidates vie for votes on 4 May, with the Shetland South ward not even going to the polls after only three people put themselves forward for the three seats.
