SHETLAND experienced its second grass fire in the space of a few days after 17 hectares of land was damaged in North Nesting on Saturday afternoon.

Two appliances from Lerwick and one from Brae attended the fire in Kirkabister after receiving the call at 1.30pm.

Crew used beaters and spades to extinguish the fire, which was put out by 3.25pm.

Grass and heather located in the area was destroyed.

The news comes after fire fighters dealt with a blaze that covered 70 acres of land in Sandness on Thursday.
