News / Cars off the road
POLICE in the isles had to deal with three minor road traffic accidents over the last 24 hours following a wintry spell of weather.
The driver of a car was taken to the Gilbert Bain Hospital with minor injuries after his car left the A970 road at Quarff at 8.25pm on Thursday.
On Friday morning, a car ended up in the ditch of the unclassified Collafirth to Ollaberry road at 10.24am.
Half an hour later a car came to rest on its side on the A968 road around four miles north of the Yell ferry terminal resulting in one lane of the carriageway being blocked for a time.
No one was injured in both these accidents.
Meanwhile one driver has been arrested for drink driving offences during the first week of the police’s festive drink drive initiative.
Chief inspector Lindsay Tulloch said that a total of six drivers had been breathalysed.
“Don’t spoil Christmas for you, your family or someone else’s family by drinking and driving,” he said.
