News / Kathleen up for care award
THE MANAGER of a residential care complex in Unst has been announced as a finalist at this year’s Scottish Health Awards.
Kathleen Johnson, a senior manager at the Brucehall extra-care housing complex has been shortlisted for the integrated care for older people award.
She has been described as “instrumental” in setting up Brucehall’s extra care housing and has been praised for improving the lives of many people.
Brucehall gives people the option of living in homes which they rent, but where support is available to them at all times. Residents have a variety of needs and the support offered is tailored to each individual.
Kathleen is responsible for the polytunnel where vegetables and flowers are grown for the residents to enjoy.
Shetland Islands Council chief executive Mark Boden offered the local authority’s congratulations to Kathleen for her nomination.
“We know how committed she has been to the development of the Brucehall facility as an excellent example of a service that supports people to live well in their community. The nomination is well deserved.”
The Scottish Health Awards recognises those who “go the extra mile to provide outstanding patient care” every year. Winners in the 16 categories will be announced at an awards ceremony on 4 November at Edinburgh’s Corn Exchange.
