News / Scrumdiddlyumptious!
A STAGE production of Roald Dahl’s The BFG featuring a cast of local children will take place in Lerwick this weekend.
The Shetland Children’s Theatre Summer School will hold performances of the famous story on Saturday at 2pm and 7pm at the Anderson High School auditorium.
The shows mark the culmination of a week of workshops across Shetland’s primary schools with the council’s drama officer Izzy Swanson.
The children will have learnt about everything from acting to the technical aspects of putting on theatre shows.
In addition to the pupils, the production has also cast panto regulars Barnum Smith and Caroline Leask as the BFG and Sophie respectively.
Rachel Djuel-Beer and Baillie Smith have created “gruesome” masks for the show, whilst Hilary Smith has made props.
Swanson commented that the BFG tale is one of her “favourite shows”.
She added: “I hope families will come along and see what the young people have done to pull it all together in a fun way over a very short period of one week but it will be ‘scrumdiddlyumptious’!”
The two performances will be free to attend and are open to all.
