News / ‘Bizarre’ naked behaviour

A NIGHT of “bizarre behaviour” has resulted in a man being given 150 hours of unpaid work and a one-year supervision order.

Twenty five year old Ryan Paterson, of Upper Glebe in Bressay, previously admitted behaving in a threatening manner at a friend’s house in Lerwick’s Hoofields on 19 February.

In a series of incidents, he ended up getting “completely naked” in his female friend’s house before running around, “shouting and screaming and not making any sense” and striking her with a flailing limb.

Paterson then took a hammer to smash the ground, while using it to break a hole in a locked door to force re-entry.

The 25 year old was later arrested by police in the Hoofields area following a struggle.

Lerwick Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday from defence agent Tommy Allan that Paterson “has a number of ongoing issues, but he is trying to accept help in dealing with that”.

Sheriff Philip Mann called Paterson’s behaviour “really bizarre” and he found it “difficult to understand what he was playing at”.

He gave the man a total of 150 hours of unpaid work and placed him under supervision for one year.

Mann admonished Paterson on a charge of stealing a hammer.

Meanwhile, an Ayrshire man has been fined £1,200 for threatening staff and brandishing a bottle at Lerwick’s Posers nightclub.

Thirty two year old Gary Robertson, of Boglemarts Street, Stevenston, previously admitted behaving aggressively, brandishing a bottle at door staff and making threats at the nightspot during the first weekend in June.
