News / Air ambulance visit postponed
THE SCOTTISH Ambulance Service has apologised after poor weather forced it to postpone plans to show off its new air ambulance in the northern isles this weekend.
The event in Orkney on Saturday and in Shetland on Sunday were cancelled on Saturday morning due to the weather forecast.
An SAS spokesman said they were sorry that people have been denied the opportunity to see the aircraft, but they are determined to reschedule before they come into service later this month.
The two new Airbus H145 aircraft will replace the current EC135 helicopters which have been in service since 2006.
They are larger and faster, with a greater range, reducing the need to stop en route to refuel on longer missions.
On Sunday the aircraft were due to visit Fair Isle, Foula, Papa Stour, Yell, Unst, Fetlar, Out Skerries and Lerwick allowing people to meet pilots and paramedics.
