News / Ryan conquers Fitful Head
SUPPORTERS of Disability Shetland turned out in strength on Saturday to help one of their young clients to enjoy the stunning views from Fitful Head, one of the isles’ highest hills.
Thirteen year old Ryan Brannan from Cunningsburgh suffers from cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair.
More than 30 friends and family pushed and pulled him up along the track from Quendale to reach the 1,000 feet high promontory.
By 12 noon Ryan was sitting in his wheelchair on the summit of Fitful Head with a huge smile on his face.
Disability Shetland volunteer Sandy Peterson said: “Ryan loves being out and about but unfortunately we only very rarely get him out of his wheelchair.
“He was absolutely ecstatic when we reach the summit, he just loved it – and that made it for everybody else.”
Ryan, his family and friends did the climb for Disability Shetland, which needs funds to guarantee that its activities and clubs for children will be able to continue.
If people want to reward him and his team, they can donate through the website www.disabilityshetland.com or at Market House in Lerwick. So far around £1,000 have been raised.
Disability Shetland wants to thank everybody who made this day such a happy occasion.
