News / Student showcase
THE LATEST Mareel student showcase event will take place later this month.
The concert, due to be held at the Lerwick venue on 27 May, will feature music and video from the arts centre’s Vocational Pathways, NC, HNC and BA students.
It will be the third and final event of its kind this year at Mareel and singer-songwriter Eve Maguire, who studies the HNC Music course, will launch a single recorded at the venue.
A music video for the track, which was made by Mareel students, will be shown on the night alongside other visual media.
There will also be homegrown music across genres such as folk, blues and metal, whilst former HNC student James Dade will perform an electronic set.
NC student Robbie Walterson said: “The past two student nights were excellent fun and very successful.
“Confidence has continued to develop amongst my colleagues and their musical talent will be on full display at the showcase, playing both covers and some exciting original material.”
Music lecturer Fraser Mouat meanwhile added: “During the year the students have worked hard to cover a broad range of musical topics including composition, performance, business and technology.
“This showcase brings together the best of their work for the public to enjoy.”
Tickets for the student showcase event have gone on sale via Shetland Box Office last week.
