Letters / Populist measures
I am so glad Douglas Young is not a full time reporter (Champagne or school lunch; SN, 06/01/15) because his one sided reporting would soon do him out of a job.
Free school meals in Scottish schools is a policy which follows other populist measures introduced by the SNP since 2007, including free prescriptions and higher education.
It is being partly funded from extra money coming to Scotland thanks to free school meals for infants being introduced by the coalition in England, in September last year.
MPs may well drink expensive champagne in Westminster but here in Holyrood MSPs have banned pictures of their luxurious £125,000 bar.
The swanky watering hole called the Queensberry House Lounge cost taxpayers £75,000 to build with the rest paid for by catering contractors Sodexo.
But parliament bosses are refusing to let taxpayers see what they have helped pay for because of concerns over MSPs’ “privacy”.
Gordon Harmer,
Brae.
