Award for Mainland

BRESSAY Boating Club members recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of the club with a social evening in the Bressay Hall.

It was in late 1988 that a group of boat owners first met to discuss plans for a Bressay small craft marina, and the club was up and running by early 1989.

Before the presentation of gifts to surviving members of the original committee, current club chairman Theo Smith (pictured left) and secretary Hazel Anderson (right) visited founding chairman Tom Mainland at home to present a special long service award in recognition of his sterling work as club commodore for many years and his indispensable role as volunteer civil engineer, designing and supervising construction of the marina and breakwaters, completed in 1992.
