News / Town centre vote
THE BUSINESS plan to re-vitalise Lerwick’s town centre will go to the vote later this month.
In 2009, Lerwick Town Centre Association received £20,000 funding from the Scottish government after the area was designated a business improvement district (BID).
This was followed by a similar grant from Shetland Islands Council when the project was renamed Living Lerwick (www.livinglerwick.co.uk)
Now a detailed plan has been drawn up to restore the unique town centre as the social and commercial hub for locals, visitors and businesses.
Commercial operators in the area will receive their printed copy of the business plan next week and can vote until 5pm on Thursday 28 June whether to take their plans forward.
Emma Gibson of the Peerie Shop and Peerie Shop Café said: “The BID is an opportunity to revitalise the town centre, to bring back the excitement and buzz of a visit to ‘the street’.”
