Letters / A trifle disingenuous
I beg your pardon, Drew! (Council has nothing to do with Viking, SN, 11 April 2012).
I believe that if the Viking wind farm project proceeds, Shetland Islands Council will have some role as delegated planning authority to ensure that Viking Energy adheres to conditions of approval.
And as SIC councillors, precisely because they are councillors, sit on the Shetland Charitable Trust, which is part-owner of VE, isn’t it a trifle disingenuous to say that the SIC has “no more involvement” (unless all the councillors withdraw from SCT)?
As for “disagreeable attack[s] ‘on the man rather than the ball’”, I’m proud to be a member of an organisation whose spokespersons have, over the past few years, argued rationally without issuing personal jibes and insults, while they have been publicly accused of fomenting hysteria, panic-mongering, bullying, and goodness knows what else.
Yours sincerely,
James Mackenzie
