SEVEN schools across Shetland are closed today (Tuesday): Aith Junior High School and the primary schools at Whiteness, Skeld, Sandness, Happyhansel, Urafirth and North Roe.. All other schools are currently open.
Sumburgh Airport is experiencing some delays but the first flight, from Aberdeen, has now landed. The first plane to leave was the Aberdeen flight which left at just before 9am.
Police are advising drivers to allow extra time for their journey and to drive according to the prevailing weather and road conditions.
Motorists should also ensure that both they and their vehicle are suitably equipped and prepared for changeable wintry weather, police added.
