News / West side drink driver may lose car

A SHETLAND man has had his car impounded by the police and been banned from driving after being caught drink driving on the west side of the isles.

John William Tait, aged 60, of Culebra, East Burrafirth, was almost one and a half times the legal limit for alcohol when he was arrested after driving on an unclassified road near his home on Saturday morning.

Appearing from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court, Tait pled guilty and was told he would be sentenced on 19 October after a social work report had been completed.

Sheriff Graeme Napier banned him from driving until then and said he would consider whether Tait should be allowed to get his car back.
