Superb Siegel secures silver at World Championships in Arizona
Lauri Siegel finishes second in age group at Static Monsters event
SHETLAND strongwoman Lauri Siegel is celebrating after clinching a silver medal at a World Championship event in Phoenix, Arizona at the weekend.
The teenager – who only competed in her first strength competition in January – overcame her nerves to finish second in the junior female category on Saturday.
And her performance impressed so much that Lauri has now been invited to the 2027 Static Monsters World Championships – in Benoni, South Africa.
The 17-year-old had a fantastic day on the platform, successfully lifting 50kg and 55kg on the log press before narrowly missing out on her final 60kg attempt.
On the 18-inch axle deadlift she successfully lifted 145kg, before a second attempt at 155kg was controversially ruled by the referee ruled as a no lift.
Siegel finished with a combined total of 200kg to earn a second place finish and a silver medal.
Her dad, Gordon Siegel, said they were “absolutely over the moon” with what Lauri had achieved in such as short space of time.
“She’s only 17, and having taken up strongwoman in January this year, to come all the way from Shetland to Arizona and finish second in the world is something we’re incredibly proud of,” he said.
“She was nervous going into the competition, but she got out there, gave it everything she had and really enjoyed the experience.
“We’ve had so many lovely messages from people back home who were watching the livestream and following her progress throughout the day.
“The support has been absolutely fantastic, and we’d like to thank everyone who helped make this journey possible.”
Lauri completed a stunning sporting comeback by even taking part in her first strength competition in January, having suffered a broken arm which took her nine months to recover from.

The keen rugby player had been told she may never play the sport again as a result of the double bone break.
But she threw herself fully into the Static Monsters event in Invergordon at the start of this year – under the watchful eye of celebrity supporters Luke and Tom Stoltman – and was stunned to qualify for the world finals in the USA.
Gordon Siegel said her team wanted to give their thanks to personal trainer Shauna Moar and performance coach Bryan Pearson, along with her sponsors K&K Transport, G&S Flooring, N-Graved, Jim’s Garage Ford, J&Ds Halcrow and Shetland Weight Training Club.
They also thanked everyone who donated to get Lauri to Phoenix this month, or who supported her in anyway, adding they “genuinely couldn’t have done this without you all”.
“Once we’re home, it’ll be back to training as Lauri prepares for her next chapter – her Natural Strongwoman journey, starting in January 2027,” Gordon said.
“It’s been an experience for her and we’re one very proud mum and dad”.
