Fire service attends Lerwick chippy after gas issue
THE FIRE service attended Da Harbour Chippy in Lerwick yesterday (Saturday) to assist with a gas issue.
Crew plus the shop’s staff helped to make sure equipment was isolated and switched off, with the premises to remain closed until the issue is resolved.
A police tape cordon was seen around the perimeter of the fish and chip shop in the early hours of Sunday morning while the building was ventilated.
Da Harbour Chippy said it hope to get things looked at on Monday.
The building was evacuated and ventilated at around 6.40pm after a safety mechanism kicked in on a fryer due to high temperatures, which then shut down an extraction system – meaning carbon monoxide which usually would be removed immediately was present.
The chip shop said staff phoned the fire service for assistance after the issue returned despite a system reset.
The fire service made sure the supply and fryers were isolated, with advice given to keep the building ventilated overnight and have the gas fryers checked by a professional.
