SHETLAND secured an away badminton double victory in the annual inter-county match on Saturday.

The blues headed south to meet historic rivals Orkney on Friday night, taking both A and B squads to Kirkwall.

The B county was up first, with captain Sven Thomson captaining the side to a 12-6 victory following men’s, ladies and mixed doubles matches.

That allowed them to retain the title that they won in Shetland 12 months ago.

It was the turn of the A team next, led by captain Kylie Wood, and they were out to avenge a 16-10 defeat to Orkney on home soil last year.

Shetland produced a superb and dominant display to firmly turn that result on its head, winning 19-7 in Orkney to make it a famous away double.
