Letters / Why is Alex standing for election?
The Scottish Green Party has taken the decision not to field candidates in most Scottish constituencies.
They have done this as they judge that they will maximise the number of Green MSPs by focusing all their energies on maximising the list vote.
One of the few exceptions to this is Shetland where Alex Armitage has decided to stand.
But why?
He knows that he has absolutely no hope of winning the seat. He is fully aware that the election is a straight choice between Hannah Mary Goodlad and Emma Macdonald.
He also knows that some of his potential supporters might have been otherwise have voted for Hannah Mary.
To these voters I would simply say this – be careful. If you vote for Alex, you may get Emma.
