ONE of Scalloway’s key roads will remain closed for a number of days yet as work continues to repair a burst water main.

New Road has been closed to through traffic for a few days to allow Scottish Water staff to get to work, with access retained for local residents.

Shetland Islands Council has now issued a road closure notice which extends through to 5pm on Monday 9 February.

However, a spokesperson for Scottish Water said this three-week notice has been put in place to allow for “any potential complexities” in locating and repairing the burst.

“So far, three excavations have been completed to help identify and isolate the affected section of pipe. We expect the repair itself to be completed by the start of next week,” they said.

“Full reinstatement of the road surface may continue into the following week, depending on the availability of materials.”

Traffic can access Main Street through a number of other ways, including via Castle St/New St, Chapel Lane and Hillside Road.
