News / Large power cut leaves hundreds of homes in the dark

OVER 550 homes across the Central and North Mainland have been left without power this morning (Tuesday).

SSEN said that power had been lost to homes around the Nesting and Vidlin areas at around 8.25am this morning, with large parts of Whalsay, Burra and Whiteness also thought to have been affected.

The energy company said as many as 579 homes could be left without power this morning.

Power is expected to be restored to around 400 homes at around 1pm this afternoon, SSEN said.

However the remainder – mostly in and around Nesting – may only be switched back on at 3.30pm.

SSEN said the cause of the outage was a fault in its overhead network, with engineers on their way to fix it.
