UHI Shetland appoints new principal
UHI Shetland has appointed its former depute Laura Burden as the college’s new principal and CEO.
She is replacing Professor Jane Lewis, who is retiring at the end of the year.
Lewis was appointed in 2019 to oversee the merger of tertiary education which resulted in the creation of UHI Shetland.
Burden, who will take up her new position early in January, previously served as the depute principal of UHI Shetland.
Prior to that she was head of training and skills, while she has also been head of the nautical and engineering team at the former NAFC.
Chair of the UHI Shetland board of management Stephen Leask said: “Her experience, dedication, and leadership were instrumental in our recent successes, and I am confident she will lead the institution with integrity and ambition.”
The new principal said she was delighted to be appointed and vowed to build “upon the impactful research and learning opportunities provided by UHI Shetland”.
“I would also like to thank our outgoing principal Professor Jane Lewis for all of her support, hard work and dedication to UHI Shetland over the last six years.”
