AROUND 60 workers have walked out this morning at Sullom Voe Terminal in a row over pay.

Insulators, painters, scaffolders and supervision staff, employed by contractor Altrad started a 24-hour strike action at 6am.

That came after a recent lump sum payment offer was rejected by Unite union members.

It comes as part of the annual pay review between terminal operator EnQuest and Altrad, one of the main contractors on site.

It is understood that EnQuest had originally offered a zero per cent pay rise, which was rejected out of hand by union members.

Two subsequent offers, one capped at a payment of £900 and a second capped at £1,250, were also turned down, as union member demand a £2,500 payment.

Staff picketed outside the oil terminal on Monday morning, with more industrial action planned later this month and in January if there is no resolution.

A further walk-out is planned on Monday 15 December, and then on 12 and 26 January.

EnQuest was contacted for comment on Friday afternoon, but as yet has not responded.
